The Civil Aviation Act

As a Contracting State of ICAO, Trinidad and Tobago has a responsibility to establish and implement an effective Safety Oversight System. To this end, ICAO has defined a list of eight (8) critical elements for a State to execute its Safety Oversight System. The first critical element is the enactment of Primary Aviation Legislation.

In fulfilling its obligation as a signatory to ICAO, the State, through its legal system, repealed the Colonial Civil Aviation Order 1952 (Repeal Act 33.2000) including all amendments to this order and the Civil Aviation Act of 2000.

And on November 01, 2001, the Civil Aviation Act (Act 11 of 2001) was legislated for the establishment of the Trinidad & Tobago Civil Aviation Authority.
