Flight Crew Examinations

Before a licence may be issued, the applicant must pass the written aeronautical knowledge examination and skill test administered by the Authority for the type of licence you are applying for, unless exempted. Examinations for private pilots’ licences and higher licences are generally set and marked by the Authority.

Here is a list of examinations set by the Authority for which a knowledge test is required:

o Private Pilot Licence (Aeroplane)

o Private Pilot Licence (Helicopter)

o Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane)

o Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter)

o Airline Transport Licence (Aeroplane)

o Airline Transport Licence (Helicopter)

o Instrument Rating (Aeroplane and Helicopter)

·The knowledge Test for the Instrument ratings is the same for aero plane and Helicopter.

o Instructor Rating

o Ground Authorisation

Examinations set by the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority:

    o  Solo Air Legislation for aeroplanes and helicopters.

    o  Required for a PPL or conversion of a foreign licence

·       Private, commercial and air transport pilot licence examinations for aeroplane and rotorcraft (helicopter).

·       Private, commercial and air transport conversion (only available for conversion of foreign licences)

·       Instructor rating examination

·       Ground Authorisation

Present Examination System

At present, we have the Aeronautical Knowledge examination for:

o The direct issuance and conversion of Private Pilot Licence

o The Direct Issuance and Conversion of a foreign licence to a Trinidad and Tobago Commercial Pilot Licence.

o The Validation of a Foreign Licence

o The direct issuance and conversion of Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s Licence
